Brittany Seits, bassoon
Brittany Seits is currently pursuing a Graduate Certificate in bassoon performance at the University of Southern California where she studies with Judith Farmer. She completed her Bachelor of Music in bassoon performance in 2010 at California State University, Fullerton where she studied with Dr. Rebecca Rivera and her Master’s of Music in bassoon performance at the University of Southern California in 2013 where she studied with Judith Farmer.
Ms. Seits is an active freelance bassoonist and contrabassoonist in the Los Angeles and Orange counties. She is currently the principal bassoonist of the Santa Monica Symphony and the contrabassoonist for YMF’s Debut Orchestra. She also participates in the Claremont Colleges Orchestras, Los Angeles Doctor’s Symphony, Dana Point Symphony, Corona Symphony, and more. Seits has participated in masterclasses with highly acclaimed bassoonists such as Kim Laskowski, Benjamin Kamins, Alexey Sizov, and Albie Micklich. Ms. Seits has had the great pleasure of working under the baton of celebrated conductors such as James Conlon, Carl St. Clair, Larry Livingston, and Gerard Schwarz. Her musical career has also taken her around the world with tours to Portugal, Poland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. In 2009, Seits was awarded 3rd place in Cal State Fullerton’s Winds and Percussion Concerto Competition and in 2011 placed as one of the top ten finalists in the National Collegiate Solo Competition hosted by the U.S. Army Band, “Pershing’s Own.”
In 2011, Seits became a founding member of her award-winning quintet the “Sound of 5.” As a huge advocate of music education, Ms. Seits and the” Sound of 5” have made it their mission to cultivate a passion for music in the lives of members of the community through inventive, energetic and educational programs. The” Sound of 5” was awarded the Thornton Outreach Fellowship in 2012 and 2013 with their originally created programs “California History” and “Around the World.” In 2013 they won the Max H. Gluck Foundation Fellowship where they performed over 25 concerts in under-served communities throughout Los Angeles County. Through this fellowship they had the pleasure of performing for the Los Angeles County Office of Education’s Operation Graduation at Walt Disney Concert Hall.
In addition to her educational work with the “Sound of 5,” Seits is also the Activities Director for Donner Mine Music Camp in Northern California, where she has also been the bassoon counselor for the last eight years. Ms. Seits also host’s her own private bassoon and piano studio in Los Angeles County.
