Alana Alexander, clarinet
Alana Alexander is in demand as both a freelance musician and private lesson teacher in Los Angeles.
In the summer of 2013 she participated in the orchestra of the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. Previous festival participation includes the Music Academy of the West, the Crusell Masterclass in Finland, and the Round Top Festival Institute.
Alana works with a number of young clarinet students through the Young Musicians Foundation Music Mentor program, the Beverly Hills Conservatory, and the LA Full Gospel church. She also maintains her own private studio of clarinet and piano students.
In the spring of 2011, Alana moved to Norway where she was offered a contract to play with the Forsvarets Mussikkorps Vestlandet, or Norway's Navy band, based in Bergen. She had the privilege of traveling and performing in many regions of Norway with this group.
Ms. Alexander has been a finalist for the San Bernardino orchestra and the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, and a semi-finalist for the Colorado Springs Philharmonic (Principal Clarinet and Associate Principal Clarinet) and New World Symphony.
Alana holds a Graduate Certificate from the University of Southern California, a Master of Music degree from California State University, Fullerton, and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Texas. Her teachers were Yehuda Gilad, Michele Zukovsky, David Howard, Håkan Rosengren, and Richard MacDowell. Others she has studied with include Burt Hara, Richie Hawley, Andreas Sunden, and Olli Leppaniemi. She has performed with the Los Angeles Debut Orchestra, the American Youth Symphony, Orange County's Opera a la Carte, the USC Thornton Symphony, and the USC Thornton Contemporary Music Ensemble, and performed in the Walt Disney Concert Hall with Sound of 5.
